Top Ten Romance Books by Women of Colour//Read in 2017

top ten rom books by WOC

So 2017 is coming to a close and the year end lists will be coming out in droves, so I wanted to do mine buuut instead of just  a “best I’ve read in 2017” list I wanted to specifically hype Women of Colour romance authors 😀 especially some who I feel like more people need to be gushing about! I’ve read some great stuff this year by the usual faves and some new faves. My top ten will include most books pubbed this year with a few pubbed before because ayyyyye it’s important to read backlists too 🙂

So in no particular order here we gooooo:

  1. Treasure by Rebekah Weatherspoon (pubbed in 2014)

I was supposed to read this foreverrr ago but 2017 was the year I finally did. I loved Alexis and Trisha together. My fave thing was how Trisha being a stripper was never an issue for Alexis. She didnt try to get her to quit her job or make Trisha feel guilty for doing it. In fact from their first meeting at the strip club Alexis was in awe of Trish. An it was just so adorable. I know Rebekah has some more f/f and I’m gonna read it if not this year next year for sure!

2. Merry Inkmas by Talia Hibbert (pubbed in 2017)

Talia’s a new to me author, discovered very recently and I loved this one! i adored Bailey and Cash together my word. This big tatted red head who blushes and worships Bailey’s body. I love that. He loves her thick thighs and soft tummy and her behind of course *smirk* And Bailey is the sweetest but she gave Cash a good run for his money.

3. Take The Lead by Alexis Daria ( pubbed in 2017)

Also new to me this year, Alexis wrote one of my fave books for 2017! I fell in love with Gina and Stone so hard. This book danced its way into my heart. Alexis Daria can write a  heck of a dancing scene, the raw emotion leaps off the page. I love this books o much and I wish i could just get copies for everyone and throw it at them lol

4. Hate To Want You by Alisha Rai (pubbed in 2017)

It’s written by Alisha Rai that should be enough reason 🙂 but truly this first book in this series caught me and never let me go. Livvy and Nicholas are just *heart eyes* and I love that Nick has this ridiculous sweet tooth just like me! There’s scene towards the end with a cookie and lol poor guy. It was such an intriguing story where their families were so close for years and then a thing rips that alll away and they’ve been secretly hooking up once ever year for yeaaars. whoo! all the yummy goodness here.

5. A Hope Divided by Alyssa Cole (pubbed in 2017)

historical romance with a black heroine lead written by a  black women mmmhmmmm yessssss. I loved book 1 but there’s just something about Marlie and Ewan that i loved more. The fact that Ewan is all *heart eyes* whenever Marlie is working is a plus 😉

6. Sanctuary by Rebekah Weatherspoon (pubbed in 2017)

Yes Rebekah is on here twice, whatever I do what i waaaant 😛 Look this book has the wildest opening chapter and I was left there with my mouth hanging open cuz um yeh the heroine stabs an intruder with her stiletto and it was awesoooome! From that first chapter I was riveted and damn such a good story.

7. Three Little Words by Melissa Blue (pubbed in 2017)

I will keep shouting about this series. Melissa Blue’s DirtySexyGeeks deserves to be shouted about because these guys are fun, infuriating, sweet, assholes and I just love them and the women who give them a run for their money. Iris omg sh was amazing. Listen! She pulled a flask from under dress and I very nearly died, right along with Porter 😉 This one’s got oops i slept with my sister’s best friend and now we’re having a baby send heeeelp trope ahhaha. Which I think was so expertly done.

8. Better At Weddings Than You by Mina V. Esguerra (pubbed in 2017)

I don’t know how to explain how much i adore this book. But if you don’t know my love for romance class books by now where have you been??? Daphne and Aaron are one of my fave romance class couples. I’ve never read a book with a male wedding planner so that was intriguing right from the start. And Daphne is in her 30s and was my exact age of 34 when I read it. I’m 35 now 😉 But yes more older heroines please. Who are doing their thing and killing at it. This book also has the best back rub scene I’ve ever read, it’s so steamy and sensual daaamn. Also the food descriptions will leave you hungryyy!!

9. Delicious Temptation by Sabrina Sol (pubbed in 2015)

This book was recced to me sooo long ago, or so it feels but I finally got around to it this year and I was sad that everytime i picked up the book to read I didnt have food/ snacks with me because the food descriptions!! I want to eat everything out baker heroine prepared. It all sounded so yummy! Apart from the yummy foods I loved this story between a reformed bad boy and a supposed good girl.

10. The Queen’s Game by Carla de Guzman (pubbed in 2017)

HELLO YES CONTEMPORARY ROYAL ROMANCE WITH FILIPINO MCs!!! We got fake dating trope between two royals people this is not a drill!!! Nina and Felipe are the perfect foils for reals, but they worked so well. Felipe’s love of farming and his klutziness made him so charming. Nina’s devil may care way about her, excellent!

I got some more great books to read in what’s left of 2017 and here’s hoping for an ever better reading year in 2018!
